On this special guided Camino de Santiago bike tour from León, you’ll follow the historic French Way through the heart of northern Spain, arriving int Santiago de Compostela just in time to experience the Gran Salida of La Vuelta 2027.

Your journey begins beneath the soaring spires of León’s majestic Gothic cathedral and takes you across the golden plains of Castilla y León, through medieval villages, ancient pilgrimage routes and timeless landscapes. As you leave the meseta behind, the scenery transforms, with the dry Castilian plateau giving way to the lush mountains and emerald-green valleys of Galicia.

Over 240 km, you’ll experience the Camino at a wonderfully relaxed pace, travelling beyond the usual pilgrimage paths and into the heart of rural Spain. Along the way, discover Romanesque churches, centuries-old villages, chestnut forests and atmospheric stone hamlets, while staying in exclusive boutique accommodations housed in beautifully restored noble estates, monasteries and heritage buildings.

And then comes the grand finale: arriving into Santiago de Compostela on September 3rd 2027, when the city will be at the centre of the cycling world as it welcomes the start of La Vuelta. The 2027 Gran Salida will take place in Santiago as part of the celebrations for the Año Santo Xacobeo, making this an exceptionally special year to complete your own Camino.

Arriving in Santiago after riding the Camino is always a memorable experience. In 2027, it will be even more extraordinary — as pilgrims and professional cyclists converge on the same historic city, and the ancient tradition of the Camino meets the excitement of one of the world’s great cycling races.

  • Discover the majestic monuments of medieval Spain, including León’s majestic Gothic Cathedral.
  • Stay in historic buildings carefully converted into luxury hotels, including a 12th century convent belonging to the Order of Santiago and a 15th century pilgrim hospital.
  • Cycle along gorgeous paths through ancient holm oak forests.
  • Sample the delicious gastronomy and wine of Castile-Leon and Galicia.
  • Celebrate your achievement in front of Santiago Cathedral, as your fellow pilgrims have been doing for over a thousand years.
  • Soak up the pre-race atmosphere and experience the Gran Salida of La Vuelta 2027 from the VIP area.
  • Experience the Camino de Santiago during a Holy Year (Año Xacobeo!)

Gastronomy

The gastronomy along the Camino from León to Santiago offers a delicious journey through regional tradition. In Castilla y León, expect comforting, robust flavours such as cecina de León, roast lamb and rich stews, often enjoyed with artisanal bread and local cheeses. As you cross into Galicia, the cuisine becomes fresher and Atlantic-inspired, with dishes like pulpo a la gallega, seafood rice and empanadas, all rooted in local produce and time-honoured recipes that reflect the character of each village along the way.

Wines

In Castilla y León, you’ll encounter robust reds and expressive whites from regions such as El Bierzo, where the elegant Mencía grape and the fresh, mineral Godello shine. Crossing into Galicia, the focus shifts to the crisp, aromatic whites of Albariño and Ribeiro, perfectly suited to the region’s Atlantic character and a refreshing reward at the end of another beautiful day of cycling.

Beyond our expectations. information provided, guides, accommodations, food (breaks, lunch, tapas, wine) - all top notch! Excellent quality and price. Exceptional efforts to make my birthday (70!!) extra special greatly appreciated! Amazing team. So glad we met Pablo the morning we left Madrid. And meeting Laura was a highlight, also Aviva, who walked us to the restaurant! So kind. Remy and Enrique were so patient - from fixing my chain, Rick's scrapes, returning a key to the parador (sheese, sorry!), laundry snafu (hotels do need 24 hours). Feeling blessed. Wonderful suggestions throughout. The guides and the Paradors were exceptional. Food amazing. Winery amazing. Laura's work on adapting the schedule for me to arrive in Santiago ON my birthday - and all she did to celebrate my special day. Enrique and Remy making everything "happen" during the trip was above and beyond what we expected! We are so grateful.

My wife Patricia and I followed Bike Spain Tours on a biking trip to commemorate the 30th anniversary of our marriage. Laura was so careful and attentive with the pre-trip planning and communication was prompt and very helpful, accommodating our requests and answering all the questions we had. The information on travel to Spain provided by Laura was also very welcome. We arranged for a trip to have a ‘pilgrimage’ by non-motorized bicycle from Leon to Santiago. Our guide, driver, encourager and tech support was Juan Felipe Carrasco (Juanfe) who accompanied us on our bike trip. Juanfe was so kind and accommodating, helping us with everything from telling us the local history of the places we went, to making sure our reservations and meals were all seen to and confirmed. Guiding two fifty-somethings on a bike trip meant he also had to watch our progress especially along the more difficult routes and plant himself at strategic points along the route to make sure we did not get lost. He provided hydration and energy boosts like fruit and chocolate to keep us going. It was also the peace of mind we had that Juanfe was close at hand that we managed to navigate and get through especially the difficult climbs. Juanfe was also very organized and meticulous and made sure the myriad details were seen to - like arrival times, meal reservations, check-ins at hotels, etc. We heartily recommend visiting Spain on bicycle through Bike Spain Tours. A big thank you to Laura and the team at Bike Spain, and especially Juanfe whose expertise and friendship made our trip extraordinarily memorable.

We loved the trip and rate it a 10. We thought the friendly, personal service was great and overall the trip was a very good value. We enjoyed all of the hotels and restaurants. We particularly enjoyed the Pulperia where we had lunch as we reached Santiago, and restaurant in Santiago were we had the final dinner. We liked trying some of the traditional Spanish foods that Pablo recommended and ordered. We really enjoyed Pablo and Juan. They treated us more as friends than customers.
