This tour is the perfect way to experience the countryside, coast, and culture of the Spanish Basque Country. Cycle along beautiful beaches, scenic landscapes, and charming fishing villages, immersing yourself in the local way of life.

The itinerary begins and ends in the two most exciting cities of the region: San Sebastian and Bilbao. San Sebastian, famous for its culinary scene, boasts more Michelin stars per square meter than anywhere else in the world and is the birthplace of the “new Basque cuisine” movement. Sampling the creative pintxos, made with the finest local ingredients, is a highlight for both visitors and locals. The city’s stunning bay, known as the Pearl of the Cantabrian Sea, forms a natural amphitheater surrounded by mountains, making it a world-class destination. This tour can be done in both directions, from Bilbao to San Sebastian and vice-versa.

Bilbao, the capital of Bizkaia, is a major cultural and economic hub in northern Spain. Internationally recognized for its architecture, the city is home to the Guggenheim Museum as well as many other remarkable sites and experiences in and around the city.

Day by day

Day 1: San Sebastian

Upon arrival in San Sebastián, the afternoon is yours to relax and explore at leisure.

Day 2: San Sebastian – Zumaia

Route: 35 km/21.8 miles Elevation: 650 meters/2217 feet

This morning, our local partner, Miguel, will meet you in the hotel lobby to fit your bikes, answer any last-minute questions and make sure you’re all set to enjoy!

Day 3: Zumaia- Lekeitio

Route: 44 km/27.3 miles Elevation: +768 m/ 2520 feet

From the coastal town of Zumaia, you’ll pedal inland through rolling Basque countryside, where verdant hills and fragrant meadows create a serene backdrop.

Day 4: Lekeitio – Mundaka

Route: 44 km/27.3 miles Elevation: +793 m/ 2601 feet

Departing from Lekeitio, today’s ride traces the dramatic coastline to the Bay of Guernica and the remarkable Urdaibai Estuary and Biosphere Reserve.

Day 5: Mundaka – Plentzia

Route: 38 km/23.6 miles Elevation: +845 m/ 2772 feet

Today’s ride takes you from Mundaka to the picturesque fishing town of Bermeo, where we suggest a short stop to explore its charming streets.

Day 6: Plentzia – Bilbao

Your final ride of the week takes you into Bilbao, the largest city in the province.

Spending 5 solid days of cycling with my 3 best friends. The days were FULL and every minute was wonderful. I enjoyed the breakfasts each morning and LOVED when we had dinner at the hotels with a pre-fixed menu so I didn’t have many decisions to make. I loved riding my bike on the bike paths and roads throughout the country side. I loved that we felt like we were the only ones out there. We had EVERY type of weather and even when it was raining I was still in my happy place! The 4 of us left Spain with our cups over flowing.
