Our Valencia bike tour takes you into the heart of the authentic rural Spain, through charming mountain villages untouched by mass tourism. Enjoy fantastic cycling along the Ojos Negros vía verde, Spain’s longest traffic-free cycle path.
This bike tour begins in Valencia, Spain’s third largest city: the home of beautiful beaches, the original and authentic paella, and Las Fallas, a world-famous festival with amazing fireworks. Valencia is the most bike-friendly city in Spain, and the plentiful bike paths and green parks make it a great city to explore on two wheels.
Outside the city, you’ll discover the Valencia’s huerta (orchard): the sea of orange trees that flourish thanks to the fertile soil and the pleasant Mediterranean climate. There’s nothing like cycling through the foothills of the Serra Calderona mountain range, with the scent of orange blossoms all around you. This tour offers the chance to escape into the calmness of nature, enjoy both mountain and coast, and get to know the real Spain.
This Valencia bike tour is an easy option for regular cyclists, that combines quiet secondary roads with the well-kept bike paths of the Ojos Negros vía verde, Spain’s longest greenway. Stages are an average of 40km, over flat terrain without large climbs.
Day 1: Segorbe

In the morning, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Valencia (let us know if you would like us to book this for you as an extra night) and transfer you to Segorbe for your bike fitting and welcome briefing.
The historic city of Segorbe is the capital of the fertile Palancia river valley, and has been inhabited since ancient times. We highly rcommend exploring the city’s rich cultural heritage: the 13th century Cathedral, the Fort of the Star and the medieval city walls.
Day 2: Segorbe Loop

On the first route of your Valencia bike tour, you’ll cycle part of the Ojos Negros bike path, through the stunning mountain landscapes of the Sierra Calderona and Sierra Espadán Natural Parks. We recommend a stop in the small town of Jérica, famous for its Moorish-era architecture, although it has been occupied by many different civilizations since ancient times.
From here, you’ll cycle to the town of Viver where you can visit the local farm and sample some of their organic learn about the organic products they offer: wine, oil, beans and nuts. A descent into the valley takes you through Novaliches, past the Regalejo reservoir and into Navajas, a small town famous for the nearby “waterfall of the bride”, a spectacular natural waterfall some 60m in height.
Day 3: Segorbe – Vall D’Uxó

Leaving Segorbe behind, you’ll reach the town of Geldo, where you can admire the Palace of the Dukes of Medinaceli, a fabulous example of civil Gothic architecture.
From here, your route takes you through the cork forests of the Sierra de Espadán mountain range, discovering hidden mountain villages overlooked by medieval castles and enjoying fabulous views of the Palancia river valley before enjoying a relaxed descent into Vall D’Uxó.
In Vall D’Uxó, you have the option of taking a boat ride through the Caves of San Josep, which boast the longest navigable underground river in Europe. We also recommend a visit to the archaeological site of the Ibero-Roman settlement – which dates back to the 6th century BC – the town’s two aqueducts, and the old quarter, where we are just as likely to find the remains of medieval farmhouses as elegant Belle Epoque manors.
Day 4: Vall D’Uxó – Canet
Route: 38.4 km/24 miles

From Vall D’Uxó, you’ll enjoy a relaxed, flat ride through fragrant orange groves all the way to Xilxes on the coast. From here, you’ll follow the beach into the nearby resort town of Casablanca, where you can take an optional detour around the Estanys de Almenara lagoon, a protected nature reserve, before enjoying an easy coastal ride to your hotel in Canet.
In Canet, you can walk along the shore towards the south to enjoy quiet beaches and orange groves. You will have plenty of time to enjoy the sea and the hotel pool.
Day 5: Canet – Valencia
Route: 45.5km/28.3 miles
Elevation: +130m/427 ft
Accommodation: Hotel Silken Puerta de Valencia
Today’s cycle ride takes you out of Canet and along the Via Augusta and through the towns of Puzol and El Puig. The latter is famous for the majestic Royal Monastery of Santa María, which houses an original Byzantine altarpiece dating back to the 7th century.
From here, you’ll cycle through Valencia’s huerta (orchard): a fertile plain replete with orange groves, rice paddies, vineyards and all the other ingredients of the fabulous Valencian cuisine.
You’ll reach Valencia’s urban beach of La Patacona, and from here you can follow the cycle paths into the centre of one of the most bike-friendly cities in Spain.
Day 6: Valencia

EXTRA NIGHTS: We recommend an extra night or two in Valencia, where there is plenty to see and do: a charming old town contrasts with futuristic cultural centres, while golden sands and the Mediterranean Sea are just a stone’s throw away.
If you fancy a bit more cycling, we can recommend a loop route from Valencia around the beautiful Albufera natural park, a coastal wildlife paradise.
Hotel Martín el Humano
This restored 18th-century hospital is located in Segorbe, in the Sierra Calderona Nature Reserve. It offers a spa, an attractive covered terrace and modern, air-conditioned rooms with a flat-screen TV.
The hotel’s restaurant serves traditional Valencian dishes with a modern twist. During the summer you can enjoy a meal outside on the terrace.
Hotel Belcaire
The bright rooms at the Belcaire offer a TV, heating and a safe. Each room has a private bathroom with free toiletries.
You can enjoy à la carte cuisine in Belcaire’s restaurant-pizzeria, while a self-service buffet is available in the café.
Hotel Belcaire located within a short walk of the Sant Josep underground river and caves. The Serra d’Espada Nature Reserve is just over three miles away.

Nestled on the untamed shores of Almardá (Sagunto), the brand-new Hotel Baru offers a beachfront experience like no other.

The Puerta Valencia has chic, contemporary décor designed by Javier Mariscal. The location is a 5-minute walk from Valencia’s Mestalla Stadium and a 15-minute walk from the City of Arts and Sciences.
The Puerta Valencia Restaurant serves a range of Mediterranean cuisine, specializing in rice-based dishes. There is also a café-bar, which serves tapas and cocktails in the evening.
