Overview

This cycling tour is designed for cyclists who want to live an authentic challenge. During the first days spent in the South, you will discover its typical landscape and extraordinary climate.

Mid-week we will propose to cross the island through the volcano “El Teide”, the highest peak in Spain, to reach the North of the island that stands out for its rich landscape and architecture, where you will be spending the rest of the week. Throughout the week you will discover 3 completely different and unique volcanic landscapes, the arid landscapes and sandy beaches of the South, the lunar landscape of the slopes of “El Teide” and the rich and leafy forest and beaches of black volcanic sand from the North.

From Bike Spain Tours we have prepare this tour auto-guided with a series of routes of an advanced level recommended for professionals or habitual cyclists. As it can be done independently, you can choose which day of the year you want to begin your tour and at what time you want to start each daily route and always at your own pace, being able to stop and enjoy the scenery or take a break whenever you want.

We wil take charge of taking all your luggage from the southern hotel and the hotel in the north in order for you to centre and focus only on the road.

You will discover and enjoy 3 unique environments on the island, its lunar landscapes, beaches of white sand and black volcanic sand, scenery among banana plantations, its picturesque villages of the North, vertiginous cliffs and of course ascend and cross “El Teide” through landscapes of volcanic lava. Without a doubt one of the most spectacular challenges for any cyclist.

Itinerary

Day 1

Pick up and transfer to the hotel, where we will give you detailed information of routes and the sports equipment. Depending on arrival time, we propose a light route to a small fishing village 5 km away where you can meet the locals and enjoy some of its restaurants offering fresh fish and traditional Canarian dishes like “Papas arrugadas”.

This short route will help you have a test ride with the bike and alow us to make adjustments it if necessary.

Day 2

For your first day on the island, after a good breakfast at the hotel, we propose following the line of the Atlantic Ocean, reaching a protected natural area. On this route we can begin to appreciate the volcanic nature of the island.

Day 3

We will continue this day with a demanding route that will allow you to get to know the northern part of the island, across mountains between 600 and 1100 metres high with amazing views. This route is ideal for those who like technical descents full of turns and changes of direction.

Day 4

After having discovered part of the South of Tenerife and enjoying great landscapes, we propose for this day relaxing and enjoying the facilities of your hotel and the incredible beaches on the island. If you wish we can also advise and organize different activities of leisure like theme parks, shows and water sports among others.

Day 5

For this day prepare yourself to cross the island clinbing the volcano of “El Teide”, the highest peak of Spain with a altitude of 3718 meters. A port in which, if lucky, you will coincide, in full ascension, with one of the international peloton riders coming to train to the island every year. After having reached an altitude of 2350 meters, you will do the descent trough the impressive valley of “La Orotava” where you will enjoy the typical Canary houses to end up in the tourist town of “El Puerto de la Cruz”, where you will spent the night.

Day 6

Already based in the North of the island, we suggest a route to the Northwest of the island, discovering typical towns like “Icod de los Vinos” and “Garachico” capital of a village at the feet of a cliff of 500 meters of altitude and former capital city. For the bravest we propose get to the end of the island where you will find rugged landscapes and vertical descents. Suitable only for lovers of strong emotions.

Day 7

You couldn´t leave the island without visiting “La Laguna”, Cultural and heritage of the humanity city, famous for its University atmosphere. You will return crossing different fishing villages where the protagonist will be the Atlantic Ocean. A route for your last day, that will certainly be the cherry to a fantastic week.

Departure

We will provide the transfer from your hotel to the airport.
